We Rock Your Trail
After getting a request from Andy Garrison the Long Path chair, Gobblers Knob (on map at the bottom near Otisville) access rehabilitation became a high priority for our crew. With all approvals in hand we gathered at the corner of Route 211 and Otisville Rd. in Cuddebackville NY on the morning of November 18th 2016 and hiked the short road walk to our worksite. Our mission was to rehabilitate access for the NY Long Path to Gobblers Knob. This section has about two miles of off road trail (see map) but where it meets the road, on both ends, was difficult to find and in need of repair. In the end Section 1 (the southern end) received 13 new steps, a short bridge over the gully and 250’ of trail was rehabilitated. Section 2 (the northern end) received 19 new steps and 197’ of trail was rehabilitated. This is a great little section because camping is allowed in the Gobblers Knob section (DEC land) between mile 8.40 and 10.20.
This project took 8 days over 3 weekends to complete, all done by volunteers. I know our new volunteers learned something about crew life, trail building and everyone had a great time. We really appreciate their efforts and look forward to seeing them again.
If this looks like the kind of activity you want to be part of, contact us, we're a community of volunteers who build, protect and maintain hiking trails.
We invite you to join in. You’ll be glad you did.
