We Rock Your Trail
In album #42 (Long Path relocation on Long Mountain April 1,2,3/2016) you see the Long Path relocation on Long Mountain be completed except for some blazing at the turn. To complete this relocation, LDTC had planned 9 crew outing days. Nine days was going to be three, 3 day weekends, but it only took 5 days. So with the relocation complete and a crew already to go, we directed our attention a little further down the Long Path trail to two stream crossings. At the first and largest we put in place six large stepping stones and 5 steps up the embankment. A little further down the trail was another stream where a log bridge had failed and had to be removed. Instead of building a new bridge, a short reroute was chosen a little bit upstream at a location where the stream was much narrower. There the crossing needed only two stepping stones and no steps. We removed the damaged bridge and closed off the old trail. In the photos this short relocation is marked with red blazes in some areas. The reason is I ran out of the LP blaze but still wanted to show hikers the correct way to stay on the trail. Since then they have all been changed to the correct Long Path blaze. The pictures from this project demonstrate that even in adverse weather conditions, dedicated volunteers can do wonders, give them good weather and watch out. They will surprise you every time.
Come on out and join in,
you’ll be glad you did.
