We Rock Your Trail
This will be our last weekend working on the Appalachian Trail on West Mt.
All of phase 3 was completed on our last outing so first order of business was to move all our tools to the top the mountain
The Parks Department has offered to meet us there and using their ATVs get our tools off the mountain and down to the parking lot. There's about 1500 pounds of tools so a real BIG Thank You to Micky and his associates
Chris and Marty stayed with the tools while the rest of the crew hiked the 6/10 of a mile to phase 4. Phase 4 is a short relocation of the Appalachian Trail just past the summit going North
The main thing that is needed in phase 4 is a cribwall. We will be dragging big rocks uphill to make this cribwall and filling it with crush. At the end of the day we decided it was a closer hike in to the phase 4 worksite from a lot on Seven Lakes drive than it was to hike in from the Anthony Wayne parking lot. We had an eager crew on Saturday and we were able to complete phase 4 by lunch time and headed back down to the parking lot.
This is the end of our projects on West Mt. for now. Our project started in 2013 at Beechy Bottom and ended at the Summit in 2018.
Tomorrow we start a new long term project on Black Mt.
I’ve been told no one reads this side board info panel. If you do please let me know.
The Appalachian Trail is always changing and evolving. All along the A.T., work crews, like LDTC constantly relocate and rehabilitate portions of the trail to protect nature and to enhance the Appalachian Trail hiking experience.
All of our projects take a lot of effort and as always, all done by volunteers. Our experience crew and crew leaders are eager to teach volunteers of all abilities the skills needed to build hiking trails.
Speaking of volunteers, not everyone can make it everyday and that’s OK with us. Some volunteers come out everyday while others can only make it to 1 or 2. Don’t feel that you have to commit to an entire project or even a weekend, any help is appreciated and being a volunteer you can come and go as you see fit.
We're a community of volunteers who build, protect and maintain hiking trails. We invite you to join us. You’ll be glad you did.
