We Rock Your Trail
2019 is starting to be a real wet year for us. Lots and lots of rain. On Friday, with the weather forecast looking gloom, only four crew members dared brave the inclement weather. Still with only four of them they got things done and the project moved forward. Saturday was a completely different story. The weather was delightful and there was a great crew turnout. The entire crew worked at the upper worksite right near the summit. A few crew members continued to work on the new crib-wall and added to the final set of steps to the summit. Other crew members were busy quarrying more steps and anchor/gargoyle rocks. Did I mention it was pretty near a perfect day. Nice temps, plenty of sun and just enough of a breeze blow those nasty black flies away. But like last week Sunday was a bust, a complete rainout from start to finish. Another crew outing had to be cancelled. We had hoped to complete the final sections of this project within three crew weekends but so far the rain has necessitate adjustments to that plan. We are currently hoping to complete this Black Mt. project…. any day now. Sunday was once again a rainout. Ugh
So here we are, another crew outing weekend comes to an end. We are all eagerly looking forward to our next outing.
Nice work everyone.
Thank you all.
The Appalachian Trail is always changing and evolving. All along the A.T., work crews, like LDTC constantly relocate and rehabilitate portions of the trail to protect nature and to enhance the Appalachian Trail hiking experience.
All of our projects take a lot of effort and as always, all done by volunteers. Our experience crew and crew leaders are eager to teach volunteers of all abilities the skills needed to build hiking trails.
Speaking of volunteers, not everyone can make it everyday and that’s OK with us. Some volunteers come out everyday while others can only make it to 1 or 2. Don’t feel that you have to commit to an entire project or even a weekend, any help is appreciated and being a volunteer you can come and go as you see fit.
We're a community of volunteers who build, protect and maintain hiking trails. We invite you to join us. You’ll be glad you did.
